Case Study: Liberty University

February 16, 2022

Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, faced a growing student body and limited space to accommodate their everyday travel needs. The university identified an area of East Campus adjacent to the new School of Business and soon-to-come sports arena to be the site of a new parking structure for residential and commuter students that would also remain open to staff and visitors. But the site’s hillside location presented the construction team with several logistical challenges to overcome.

A Hillside Parking Garage Built with a Design Assist Approach

To overcome these logistical challenges, precast concrete was chosen as the primary building material for the new parking garage, and a design assist approach was taken. See how Tindall enabled efficient construction on a hillside location while meeting Liberty University’s budget, timing, and aesthetic demands in a free case study from the PCI Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

What’s Inside:

  • The project’s key details, including the scope, timeline, and team members
  • The solution employed to address the site’s hill location without impacting the timeline
  • The results and how precast’s versatility enabled functionality and unique architectural features

“Our whole university is getting more public eye . . . and it’s really satisfying to me to be part of the infrastructure on that, helping the campus evolve into something that I think has turned into something pretty spectacular.” – Daniel Deter, Vice President of Major Construction, Liberty University

ACHIEVE MORE WITH PRECAST

By utilizing design assist collaboration and precast concrete, project teams came together to deliver an impressive parking structure with unique architectural features that successfully reduced main campus traffic. Not only did the team achieve a timely design, installation, and construction of the parking project, but they helped the school become better equipped to manage increased demand due to its continued expansion.
