NPP Company Description

Northeast Prestressed Products (NPP) maintains office, production, storage and fleet operations on a 28-acre site in Cressona, Pa., strategically located to the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Interstate 80, and other major transportation arteries. NPP serves agencies and contractors from Virginia to Maine, and hauls most elements with its own fleet, which includes customized trailers for delivering bulb-tee girders in the 175-ft. range – a size class for which the producers has been a forerunner in the Mid-Atlantic and New England Markets. Among its most notable recent projects, NPP delivered 52 bulb-tee girders for the Coplay-Northhampton Bridge in Eastern Pennsylvania. Also known as the Chestnut Street Bridge, the three-span structure consists of five lines of our spliced bulb-tees, each with four grouted P-T tendons.

Questions

PCI-MA: Tell us a little about the products you make and why precast/prestressed concrete products are superior solutions in the transportation sector.

Dennis Fink, President: Precast, prestressed concrete systems are used to quickly construct high quality, durable, short- to long-span bridges. Precast components are used in the construction of both the superstructure and substructure of bridges. We’re extremely proud as a company to fabricate products that are PCI-certified, deliver accelerated construction, low maintenance, and a long service life. Our products are primarily prestressed concrete box beams, bridge substructure units, bulb tees, NEXT beams, precast deck panels, and some custom products.

PCI-MA: You recently served as the 2021 PCI Chair. Tell us a little about your involvement with PCI over the years as well as your background at NPP.

Dennis Fink, President: Like a number of past PCI chairs, I’m a veteran of front-line precast, prestressed production. I joined Northeast Prestressed Products in 1987 as a finishing crew member, working up through the production, quality control, sales and management ranks to vice president, prior to my appointment as president in 2020. I’ve served as a PCI Mid-Atlantic director for five years and chapter representative before then. At PCI, I’ve chaired the Productivity Committee and served on the Bridge Producers and Quality Enhancement Committees, plus Business Performance Council.

PCI-MA: You started on the plant floor and have been very successful in your company. What positions are available at your company and what is your company culture like?

Dennis Fink, President: This industry has given back as much as I’ve given it. Through hard work and eagerness to learn I’ve been able to professionally grow and advance. This is why being so involved in the industry is important. With committee participation and connections with other members, I’ve learned best practices from how to make our company a great place to work to improving our operations and other business processes.

We have several open positions in our company. We’re looking for Production Team Members and CDL Drivers.
