Join us in celebrating the 25th Annual Women in Construction Week (March 5-11) with a blog series highlighting the value and ingenuity women bring to our member businesses. We’ll also feature careers and opportunities available to women interested in a rewarding, full-time job and being a part of the precast, prestressed concrete industry’s bright future.
PCI-MA: How do you describe your job to people?
Patricia: I am a post-pour QC Inspector, ACI grade 1 certified. I make sure that our concrete structures meet all safety requirements. Tindall provides the foundation; I ensure that what we produce is 100% safe and reliable.
PCI-MA: How did your career journey lead you to your company?
Patricia: I didn’t have direct previous experience in this field, but many changes in my life brought me here. I started in production and moved to the Quality Control Department. I've been able to use my prior experiences in a way that benefits my progression in the company and Tindall as a whole. Being responsible, hard-working, and productive have always been my strong suits and Tindall allows me to maximize this.
PCI-MA: What is one of the greatest challenges you’ve faced in our industry and how have you overcome it?
Patricia: Balancing my career and my home life. It can be a challenge working overnight, but Tindall allows me to thrive in my position and still be present in my family and my granddaughters’ lives. I’m still able to succeed in all facets of life, all it takes is balance.
PCI-MA: What do you enjoy most about your job?
Patricia: I grew up the daughter of a logger, so heavy machinery was something I took interest to, especially working with my father during the summer. With Tindall, I’m able to broaden my experiences and opportunities in an environment I’ve grown to appreciate over the years.
PCI-MA: Do you have a mentor or role model? If so, how does this person support you in your personal and professional growth?
Patricia: As a child, I idolized Wonder Woman because of her strength and perseverance, so she inspired me to be confident in myself and my abilities. I don’t have a direct mentor, rather I’ve learned and adapted from the input from others throughout my adult life. Every situation is a learning opportunity. My co-workers at Tindall have helped me tremendously along the way. Even my daughter, son, and granddaughters remind me to slow down and enjoy the smaller things in life. I have been so lucky in my life to have so much support from everyone.
PCI-MA: What are your career and life aspirations and goals?
Patricia: I strive to be the best person I can be. As a QC Inspector, I’m preparing to obtain my PCI Level 1 and 2 in the fall, which will help open more doors for me down the road. I want to prove to myself that there’s no limits to what I can achieve if I dedicate the time to accomplish these tasks.
PCI-MA: What advice would you give a young woman entering the construction industry?
Patricia: Don’t be intimidated. As long as you have confidence in yourself, you can achieve anything!
It’s with a heavy heart that PCI-MA announces the passing of Patricia Daves in June 2023, shortly after the original publication of this article. We remember Patricia not only as a remarkable construction official but also as a cherished individual who left an indelible mark on the entire Mid-Atlantic precast concrete industry and all who knew her.
We hope that this page can stand as a tribute to her legacy and serve as a token of remembrance for her friends, family, colleagues, and all those whose lives she touched. Her influence will continue to resonate within our precast construction community and serve as an inspiration for future generations.
In honoring Patricia's memory, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and Tindall coworkers during this difficult time. May her passion for the precast construction industry and her compassionate spirit live on in the hearts of those she influenced.
