Guest Lecture Highlights Precast Concrete’s Vast Applications and Production Capabilities
Metromont Engineering Project Manager, Eric Humphries, recently served as a guest lecturer as part of the PCI Foundation’s grant with the University of Delaware. Eric’s guest lecture topic was “Precast Materials, Production, Standard Sections and Applications,” and is one of several guest lectures planned as part of Professor Jovan Tatar’s CIEG 404/604 Prestressed Concrete Design course.
Eric’s presentation featured:
- Photos of precast concrete buildings manufactured and erected by Metromont Corporation
- The production process of structural precast concrete members
- Differences and advantages of pre-tensioning vs. post-tensioning precast products
- Important aspects of precast installation including transportation and site logistics
More Guest Lectures Scheduled
The class, which has nine students currently enrolled, meets Tuesday/Thursday from 11 – 12:15 pm in Dupont Hall on the University of Delaware campus. Future guest lectures will expose students to in-field experiential learning opportunities including:
- A precast plant tour to see the manufacturing process firsthand
- An in-progress precast jobsite visit
