  • Metromont part of Summit Pointe mixed-use community in Chesapeake, VA. Summit Pointe Realty LLC has broken ground on Mosaic, a mixed-use multifamily community in the Hampton Roads town of Chesapeake. The $68 million project will include 507,495 square feet of apartments, restaurants, shops and a public parking garage. The six-story apartment community will offer 270 one-, two- and three-bedroom residences with full balconies. Eight residences are designed as two-story lofts with street-level access. Community amenities will include a clubhouse, fitness center, concierge services, swimming pool, lap pool with infinity edge, cabanas, firepits, dog walk and a dog-wash station.   • Smith-Midland wins $5.5 million SlenderWall contract in major New York redevelopment project. Smith-Midland Corporation today announces a contract win to provide architectural precast concrete cladding products and services, including Smith-Midland’s proprietary SlenderWall system for use in a 19 story multi-family structure in New Rochelle, New York. The 219-unit project designed by the architectural firm, Stephen B. Jacobs Group, will utilize over 72,000 square feet of white acid-etch finished SlenderWall architectural precast panels in combination with 15,000 square feet of traditional architectural precast to clad the exterior of the structure. Both products will be manufactured under PCI certified guidelines in Smith-Midland’s flagship Virginia plant. “Our strength in the New York and New Jersey markets continues with this project for Glenwood. We have completed a cluster of great projects along the Hudson River in the past five years, and we hope to duplicate that pattern with our project in the New Rochelle redevelopment initiative. We are focused on growing our proprietary, lightweight SlenderWall cladding business and continue to add value for our clients as we expand our pre-fabrication and customization offerings including options for preinstalled insulation, wall studs and windows,” said Chief Executive Officer, Ashley Smith.
  • ACT Co-Founder E. Max Hoene Announces Retirement. Concluding a successful transition, E. Max Hoene, co-founder of Advanced Concrete Technologies, Inc. retired March 31, 2021 after 32 years at the helm of the New Hampshire-based mixing/batching plant and equipment supplier. With his vast technical and industry knowhow, Max will continue to support ACT in a senior advisory position. “Over the past five years we have executed a transition plan, where the new leadership has seamlessly taken over and is expanding ACT’s sales and service capabilities,” Hoene said. “Our customers can rest assured that ACT management and team members continue to remain strong in our commitment to customer service, product quality and industry-leading innovation along the way.” Leadership will continue with Stefan Siegels, who has served as president since 2016. Reimund Richter, service manager with 30 years combined tenure at ACT and parent company Wiggert & Co., and Charles Watkins, sales and engineering manager, round out the team.
